Lower East return with yet another beast of a release. This time from Lee Brinx – as much a part of the label since having released quite a few Eps through this stalwart of an imprint. As well as putting out his music on the Cozzy D creation, Lee has also put music out through the likes of Hot Waves, Chronovision, Alive, Resonance Records & the wonderful Stranjjur. This EP, that goes by the name 'Pipe Dreams' is a 4-track release that consists of 3 originals and one remix by Inxec.
Kicking off with the title track, you are instantly hit with the infamous and legendary 'Amen Break' by Gregory Sylvester "G.C." Coleman which forms the backbone to the track. The pads are creeping in both eerily and steadily, providing way for the suited bass formation and stunning vox chops. The track hasn't even kicked in properly and you are completely encompassed with the track, courageously dancing around with it's delights. Such a superb track. This reminds me of my old pirate radio days. Speakers up.
The remix to the title kicks off in a completely different manner. Introduced with a hint of the original pad, the track then hits into the drum-kick formation. This version is a lot more stripped back than the original and grazes along a more modern house-based structure. Although completely different, this track certainly holds weight.
'Jouse' brings back the 90s drum structures in full swing from the word go. As they lay the formation of the track, the pads, atmo and piano are slowly introduced as the bars progress. Then when the first bridge is reached, you are hit with a simple vox chop that encompasses you in it's char. From here on in, you know full well that you are going to enjoy this track. This is a totally feel-good house stomp and will kick the floors into full on smiles.
The EP finishes off with 'Losing Myself' and begins again in true Lee style, with that MPC chopped and redesigned beat structure. The bass kicks in after the first couple of bars, as do the piano and vox. Again, this has a great swing to it and carries you along nicely within it's groove. Not really the strongest track on the release, but considering the title and 'Jouse' are pure high-end material, it's hard to even compete. Not that it was a competition in the first place.
