Irishman John Daly takes the reigns here for secretsundaze’s latest – and you won’t be surprised to learn that it’s another heavyweight package from a label we’ve pretty much come to expect big things from.
By now a firm staple of the label’s plans, Daly’s productions tend to exude class, and while his previous inclinations for the London imprint might have veered towards arguably tougher territory, the assured strands of the Everlasting EP see him return to his more subtle and refined side.
The title track is a wispy slice of nimble house that plays on the listener’s emotions thanks to its many effervescent, sun-glistened chords and its whimsical, almost celestial hues. The soft synth riff that lingers throughout bring a sense of purpose and emotion to the table, helping to mark the track out as an apt set closer in the process. As the snares become more pronounced by the track’s end, so too does the feeling that this is electronic music on a fairly epic scale.
The emotive strands of the latter are then turned on their head by Detroit native Marcellus Pittman, who produces a remix that’s far tougher than its original parts. A menacing and robust interpretation, Pittman’s remix keeps the suspense tight by sticking to a fairly rigid script throughout, culminating in a memorable two-tracker that truly is a story of two halves.
