The 'Untitled EP' is the brainchild of CWS, a pairing of Cardopusher & Nehuen, both of which are the creators of Classicworks Records. Right, before I got into the music, I need to get this off my chest. Looking at the press release that accompanied this EP, it mentions that CWS should be pronounced 'Classic Works'. Now this is definitely the journalist side in me and yes I know, we are the root of all evil etc etc so I accept that it is a petty thing to mention, however I struggle to see how those three letters can be an obvious pronunciation for 'Classic Works'?!
With that said however, the actual release is pretty darn good in all fairness. A four-track vinyl only EP released through the Barcelona-based imprint Struments Records - a label that has been favoured in the past by the likes of Miguel Puente & Francesco Leali aka Clockwork.
The EP makes its presence known right from the start with 'Untitled 01' and is a serious bit of tackle. Heavy industrial techno-esque, it takes me right back to when we used to throw cave parties back at the turn of the millenium. For those that were fed a stable diet of no nonsense 4x4, then this is right up your alley.
'I' is the second track on the A side and, although it has an element of bad sound quality (a sound that has obviously been done on purpose), has elements of 80's Bronx nostalgia throughout. A simple track and very short, yet makes a great addition to the release.
'Untitled 02' is the first track on the B side and again, is a no nonsense approach to that hi energy sound a lot of us old ravers know and love and is refreshing to hear, seeing as this type of vibe is often drowned out by the tech house sound that seems to be churned out 10 to the dozen.
DMX Crew come together to create a 'Computor Rock Mix' of 'Untitled 02' that fits in with the release perfectly. Now these guys have made a name for themselves retrospectively because of their no-nonsense approach to their music. It's to the point, in your face, and we absolutely love them for it.
Like I mentioned, apart from the niggly thoughts on the naming (and I apologise for making a point of it), I have to say I love this release. It doesn't mess around in any way shape or form. It's there, and it has absolutely no qualms about it. If the heavier side of sound is your thing, then get your pennies spent on this bit of wax.
