Vince Watson - EON EP on Bio Music

It goes without saying that all good things must eventually come to an end. However, this need not be a time for mourning and it can actually provide the chance for reflective celebration. This particular In Memorandum is for Vince Watson's Bio, which is drawing to a close after a run of 15 years. Averaging only a pair of releases per year, the focus has been on quality over quantity, itself a hearty scoff in the face of high volume consumerism and labels who race their way into triple digits. A cursory glance over the catalogue validates this sentiment, at points featuring artists such as Ben Sims, Joris Voorn, Octave One, Deetron, Steve Rachmad, Funk D’Void, Rolando, Psycatron, Paul Woolford and Redshape. Not a weak link to be found.

While Bio is facing an eternal hibernation in a final Winter, Vince Watson remains evergreen. He is one of those artists who exists outside the tectonic changes of musical fashion, with a style that is deep enough to appeal to the thoughtful, rugged enough to satisfy the techno minded souls and sparkling with melodic energy that verges on progressive territories.

Eon is another example to add to a glittering catalogue of this material. The lead track itself is pulsating and emotional without ever being overwrought and hackneyed. Laden with synths, it drifts into a realm reserved for the likes of Funk D'Void's Diabla or Slam's Azure. Where it provides euphoria, Elusia allows you to drop your head in abandon, recalling memories of classic Bedrock, angular and more menacing. Both tracks may be the antithesis of today's lofi obsession but they stand distinct amongst the dusty house grooves, and a cut above sterile main room techno pounders. Bio is going out with a bang, raise your hands in respect one more time.
