The young German label Polytone are into their 11th release since they began back in 2009. For this, they have drafted in the skills of fellow German Matthias Vogt to bring his delightful blend of electonic 4x4 to the table for a single release, that is also to be interpreted with remixes from Bleaks Scene and Vince Watson.
The original starts off in a very dark affair. The heavy industrial percussion and glints of electronic darkness to fill in the gaps effortlessly, while the synth bass chop is heavily led by the grandfathers of techno. Add to that a separate bass that kicks you in to place no effort, and you are certainly on to a winner. This was built with the floor intended. Although it is elegantly deep throughout, there are hints of higher synths that break the emotion slightly, rounding off what is a great techno-orientated track.
The Bleak Scene remix carries on brilliantly where the previous left off. Kept to the same style of the release (a problem many artists struggle with), this version is almost a separate track in itself in the way it's produced, instead of being a remix. The synths create a idolising atmosphere, while the pounding drums deliver an hypnotic drive to the track. Again, when heard in a club, this will huddle you along it's bounce, forcing you to do only one thing... dance!
Vince Watson is last in line for this release. The track starts off a lot more refined with both the kit sounds and arrangament. The feel is a lot more smooth and progressive as well, while not striding too far from the other two tracks. Reminiscent of Nick Warren when he was good, you can't help but get lost in Vince's work. The reverbed hits, synth atmospheres create a brilliant groove from start to finish. It really is impossible not to like this track, or the whole release for that matter. This is such a great listen from start to finish, and I highly recomened you give it a listen. When you do, I guarantee you will be needing to purchase the whole damn thing. Great release.
