Ascorbite - Origin EP on HMWL

Up-and-coming Swedish producer Ascorbite marks his debut here for website/label HMWL, and his intricate and diverse three-tracker is just the ticket.

While it keeps to a fairly rugged tale, it still weaves a delicate and momentous path while staying to a strictly underground soundtrack. Nevertheless, the overall vibe is a house one in its many guises.

Up first is the original, ‘Origin’. Basking in virtuous nimble and clever facets, it entices us with a flute-like sound that keeps us guessing from the offset. Paired with some moody percussion and a fervent kick, the track snaps, crackles and pops with a real purpose that’ll win it plenty of fans.

Middling track ‘Filten’ is a real jam, the sort of track that’s cut from a current Detroit cloth. Meandering, skippy beats lead the way, but it’s the subtle interjections along the way that really make this one shine.

Frighted’ is a really ominous track, the like of which barely pauses for breadth along the way. Acid flourishes shine (as do the cosmic sheens which feature throughout), and it’s between this and ‘Fliten’ for the EP’s standout moments.

High on atmosphere, Ascorbite’s latest is also high on quality too.
