Russian producer Rekord 61 has drawn praise from plenty of reputable quarters of late, a fact that's primarily attributable to his polished, discerning and well-educated sound.
He is, quite simply, the sort of man who takes chances with his sound, and in Perc (who he draws on here for a remix), he's certainly found a welcome and apt adversary of his vast and nuanced sound palette.
His latest EP, sees him deliver two stunning originals. The first of these is ''Polyus'', the title track and a destitute and foreboding battle weapon; the likes of which could easily be attributable to any of techno's contemporary leading lights. Rich in pulverising acid squelches and bleak beats, it's the sort of track that's stuffed with atmosphere. If you're after a fitting introduction to this man's talents, then consider this one a good place to start.
Perc then let some light into the track courtesy of some sweeping synths, while he envelops it in a lovely drum-induced haze too. Sterling work from a man for whom we've come to expect nothing less.
Lastly, ''Val'' is a snaking field of distortion that's bound by frantic use of the 909 and a more restrained series of drums. Dark and aggressive but with serious heart, this is a techno EP of rich personality.
