Dance Spirit - Maison De Reve EP on Maison D'Etre

Dance Spirit , the L.A.-based duo of Reagan and Christopher, are readying the release of their EP Maison de Rêve for Supernature 's sister-imprint Maison D'Etre . With recent releases on Culprit and Superfreq already to their name, this fast-rising duo are definitely carving out their own sound, and garnering a well-deserved following in the underground as they go. They'll be taking their live act on tour as residents of the famed Flying Circus parties for the remainder of the year.

French for 'Dream House,' Maison de Rêve runs almost fifty minutes in length, and consists of five original productions, as well as a remix from Jun Akimoto. The album leads the listener on a cosmic course around an astral abode, starting in the “Sous Sol,” (subsoil), into the “Jardin” (garden), through the “Arriere Cour” (backyard) and finally into the “Chambre” (room). It embodies a peaceful and gentle journey of the soul through sound.

EP opener “Sous Sol,” exists anywhere but the surface, as the name implies, its eerie male vocals intoning such intimacies as “falling into you takes me further.” The second track, “Nothing Feels the Same,” has similarly distorted male vocals, this time amidst intentional crunchy crackles and spacey effects of all sorts. It's suddenly as if you've taken the proverbial red pill and are chasing that pesky rabbit into the unknown.

Next you know, you find yourself meandering in a galactic garden (“Jardin”), with a majestic and mystical mystique. Although you may be a bit lost, you traverse your new terrain with great intrigue, for it is enchanting and exciting, with brooding bass pulses and provocative pads. Regaining some grounding, you are returned to your own backyard (“Arriere Cour”). Female vocals comfortingly croon to you over introspective and atmospheric elements. The final original production, “Chambre” is at once ethereal and earthy. Birds chirp behind meditative melodies, as you close your eyes and try to make sense of the trip from which you've returned.

Maison de Rêve comes off as incredibly conceptual and positively profound. Dance Spirit have crafted five trippy tracks that make the listener feel on a deep and deliberate level, and that's no easy feat. It's an EP that allows the listener to become completely immersed in the music and the emotions it evokes.
