In spite of the fact that she has produced on labels such as Ostgut Ton, Cocoon and the now sadly defunct Buzzin Fly, Dana Ruh probably doesn't earn the plaudits that her nuanced production arsenal demands.
Her debut outing for Jus-Ed 's Underground Quality imprint may go some way to changing such perceptions, however, with Ruh's Naturally LP exactly the sort of album that should enforce the view that here is a producer of numerous, wide-ranging talents.
A refuge for those seeking dancefloor glorification as well as those searching out intricate, polished, heavily detailed house gems, Naturally is very much the sound of a producer emerging from her Cocoon background and getting down to work with Jus-Ed. Indeed, Ed's paws are ubiquitous throughout, and while Ruh's influences are obvious, that's not to say the tracks on show don't boast their own unique merits.
Steady, analogue house abounds, and much of the album is a far cry from Ruh's more techno-tinged outings for her own Brouqade imprint especially. While the latter hinted at great promise, it's on Naturally where such auspicious rumblings are built upon.
Early efforts such as ''Don't You Find Me'' and ''The Wish You Told Me'' are vintage UQ cuts, while ''Got To Work'' edges the intensity up a notch. Ed then chimes in himself on ''Jammin'', one of the stand-out cuts that further explores Ruh's penchant for hypnotic fare.
''Dirty Egg'', meanwhile, sees her indulge her sparse, experimental side, while closing anthems such as ''My Cave'' lead us out under another tidal wave of emotive soundscapes. Naturally is the sound of a lady who knows her audience very well indeed. As such, it's safe to say she's stepped up to the UQ plate with an impressive ease.
